Natural Heartburn Remedies

When people look for heartburn remedies, often the first thing that they do is look for an OTC remedy.

But perhaps you should consider trying natural heartburn remedies first.

Heartburn is generally caused by eating too much food too quickly. When you do this your stomach goes into overdrive and generates more acid than it needs to produce. This excess production of acid and combined with the extra pressure of having too much food in your stomach is what causes heartburn. So before resorting to the folk remedies that I am about to show you, first eat smaller meals and take your time when eating them. (Those tips come from the heartburn no more program.) Now, here are the folk remedies:

Ginger root is a great remedy but you must be careful to take the right amount. Taking too much ginger root can actually trigger heartburn. Take one gram of ginger root power or one teaspoon of freshly grated ginger each day.

Bananas are very good for settling upset stomachs and for relieving heartburn that is caused by spicy foods. They have a natural acid reducing effect and you can eat fresh or dried bananas when you experience heartburn.

Tumeric is good for stimulating digestion and reducing acid levels. Curry and many other Indian foods contain tumeric or you can take tumeric capsules.

Chamomile tea is good for relaxing and since stress is one of the triggers of heartburn, sipping on chamomile tea can be a good way to reduce your heartburn.

Clove oil is very powerful stuff. Just put a drop or two of clove oil in a glass of water and drink it very slowly.

So there you have it, five folk remedies for heartburn. The next time you have heartburn, give these remedies a try. Sometimes the best remedies can be found right in your kitchen. But make sure you check with your doctor first if you have any allergies to any of the ingredients mentioned in these remedies. It’s always better to be safe than sorry.
